This page is dedicated to providing the outlines and tools to help you succeed regardless of whether this is your first DISC Workshop or 100th.

Every good presenter must use and believe in what they are presenting. To present DISC well, you should have a thorough understanding of DISC basics. You don’t need to be an expert, but at a minimum you need to be comfortable explaining the benefits of each of the four primary styles to someone that has never heard of DISC before.

If your fellow BBSI branch hasn’t been through a DISC workshop yet, I recommend starting there. Your team can provide helpful feedback as you develop your presentation all the while improving your team dynamics.

Workshop Preparation

Proper preparation can truly make presenting easier. Each workshop will be different, but here is a general list of items you will need:

Purchase a copy of the BBSI DISC Team Training Workbook for each participant
Projector for slideshow (with connecting cables for your computer)
Microphone for you and possible one to catch audience responses
Slideshow software (Apple Keynote® or Microsoft PowerPoint®) available above

Important Focal Points

The key truths about DISC are:

Each of the four Primary DISC types are equally valuable and important.
Everyone is a combination of each of the four types.
DISC measures behavioral tendencies, and anyone can change their behavior at any time.
Maturity doesn’t mean that someone raises their number on any or all of their DISC scores to 100, but that they understand their natural style, and adapt their behavior to bring about the best results for everyone.

Your goal is for each workshop participant to leave with:

A better understanding of themselves.
An increased value for different styles.
Tools to improve communication.
Don’t let disruptions override your control.
Know your material.
Practice, practice, practice. The presenter notes are there to help keep you on track but should never be read word-for-word to the audience. They came to see you present, not read a set of instructions!

Minimize the time-spent teaching from the front and enable them to learn through practice, exercise and self-discovery. These workshops are intended to be interactive and engaging. The’ve heard information dictated to them before. This is your chance to help them engage in the learning process with active participation. They will not only have a great time but they will remember more, which will have a greater impact in their lives!

INTRODUCTION

Purpose: An example of an introduction…

TALLEST TOWER

Purpose: An icebreaker that gets everyone up and active. It is also great at facilitating different behaviors from the different styles — and it is a lot of fun!

Materials: You will need two individually wrapped packages of 4×6 index cards for each group of 6-12 people and one clean tabletop surface for each team to work on. Workbook pages 6-7 titled: Exercise 1. Timer. Pen or pencil. Use a permanent marker to write ‘DO NOT OPEN’ on one of the two wrapped index cards packages.

MINI-ASSESSMENT

Purpose: To identify each participant’s primary DISC type. Although not as accurate or thorough as DISC-U.org’s full online DISC Assessment, the Mini-Assessment helps each participant begin their DISCovery journey.

Note: This video does not include instructions on taking the Mini-Assessment, just an overview of the purpose and use.

DISCOVERING DISC

Purpose: This section provides the foundation upon which all the remaining training is built. It introduces the four primary DISC types to the participants so that they can learn the language and begin to understand the differences between D, I, S and C. Each of the four types are to be presented in a positive light so that each participant feels valued and can understand the value the other types bring. Be careful not to bring in any personal biases when describing each of the four types. In the end, we want everyone to be thrilled to be who they are!

COAT OF ARMS

Purpose: To build understanding of each group’s Primary DISC Type while engraining each type’s key values, building pride around each person’s makeup and to enabling discovery of the difference from other teams.

PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES

Purpose: Allows participants a chance to process through their understanding of the four scales and share their own analogy blending the values of each type.

DISC REVIEW

Purpose: To allow participants an opportunity to teach on what they’ve learned, helping to cement in their understanding.

Note: Video not yet available.

DISC COMMUNICATION

Purpose: To instruct participants on behavioral differences and similarities of the different types and allow them to put the new knowledge into practice. Then they are able to practice the tool of identifying another’s likely DISC type and modifying their communication behavior to match.

TEAM WHEEL

Purpose: To introduce a single graph that can reveal the entire team’s profile. This can be very helpful for giving teams a snapshot of the similarities and differences that the group has. It is also helpful in identifying possible missing areas on the team.

ACTION STEPS

Purpose: This exercise allows participants time to create a plan to implement what they have learned during the workshop.

QUICK REFERENCE

Purpose: To provide an easy to find, easy to read summary of their own style, which is also a great resource for others to be reminded of what they need for improved communication.

BONUS MATERIAL

Purpose: Bonus discussion on differences with cultural behaviors and DISC results consistent throughout life
